Our In-House Laboratory
Our laboratory and pharmacy area is equipped with the tools needed to evaluate your pet's health quickly and thoroughly, including:
- CBC machines and chemistry analyzers, which evaluate organ function and check for signs of infection within minutes.
- A centrifuge, used to separate blood components for more accurate testing.
- A high-quality microscope, our go-to tool for spotting parasites, infections and abnormal cells.
- A urinalysis reader, which helps detect kidney issues, urinary infections and other conditions that often show up in urine before other symptoms appear.

Microscopic Parasite Testing
Our microscope gets used daily, since dogs and cats pick up a wide range of parasites throughout their lives. We use it to examine samples for ear mites, skin mites, also known as mange, and intestinal parasites like worms. We also run cultures to detect ringworm, which helps us confirm a diagnosis and recommend the right treatment rather than guessing based on symptoms alone.
Cytology for Skin and Mass Evaluation
Cytology involves examining a small sample of cells under the microscope, and it is one of the diagnostic tools we rely on most. Many of our patients with allergies experience recurring skin or ear infections, and cytology helps us determine whether antibiotic or antifungal treatment is the right call.
In ear infections, for example, yeast organisms have a distinctive appearance under the microscope, often described as looking like small footprints or snowmen, and bacteria are frequently visible alongside them, giving us a clear picture of what's driving the infection.
Cytology is just as valuable for evaluating new masses. If your dog or cat develops a lump or tumor, a cytology sample can help us understand how serious it is and whether surgery should be recommended.
